Collections are of important scientific and historical value. Often they comprise specimens collected over a period of hundreds of years.
They hold important clues to biodiversity, environmental issues, historical abundance or the lack of it. In the past the main goal of any museum
collection was to obtain as many diverse specimens as possible. Nowadays we begin to understand that it is as important to look back, reflect and restudy those
specimens to better understand and anticipate problems in present and future scientific research, collection conservation and collecting methods. |
